Side Hustles

A side hustle is a job that you do at your own pace just to make little walk around money. There is no shame in that at all - particularly for the social aspect. Plus, you will still contribute to Social Security, which is a slight plus for those that retire early. Here is a list of easy to start common side hustle's that can be pretty fun to pursue in retirement.

  • Upwork and Fiverr - these apps let you use your experience for small or large remote projects from your home. You can make a little or a lot on this app. It's all about building your reputation and then your own demand. You can do things like programming, video editing, music production, technical writing, etc. If you have a high skill in demand, you can earn a lot.
  • Door Dash and Grub Hub - these are App driven delivery jobs. You can turn them on whenever you'd like. You can make around $15-20 an hour, but the travel expense is on you. This is good to offset any guilt you may have for going outside your normal budget.
  • Uber and Lyft - these are "ride share" apps. You basically are a taxi driver. In small towns, you'd be doing your neighbors a good service, particularly for folks going to the airport.
  • Substitute Teacher - you'd be an absolute godsend in your community, particularly if you are willing to work Fridays.
  • Part Time Interest Work - if you have a cert interest, picking up something that works just 4 hours or less a day can be a great way to keep a stable routine for yourself. It can keep you social in the community as well. If you love movies, working a few evenings at the movie theater could be great. If you play guitar, you could work at your local music store.
  • You Tube Channel - this one can be a lot of fun if you like video editing. If you don't have a face for the camera, many content editors never show their face. If you don't have a voice for radio, you can use AI these days to generate a great speaking voice from your written scripts. It takes a while to build enough content to acquire income, though, and Youtube is steadily stretching their thresholds to make it harder and harder on the little guy to ever see a check.
